Bakrid 2024- The Dhul Hijah crescent moon was seen in Saudi Arabia on 06-06-24 (Thursday) stating the start of of Islamic month Dhul Hijah one of the sacred months in the Islamic calendar.
This glimpse means that Eid-Al-Adha will be noticed on 16 June in Saudi Arabia along with Arafat Day which comes before the major Islamic holiday to be expected from 15th June. As a result, 7th June is the first day of Dhul Al Hijah, marking the beginning of this year’s Hajj Pilgrimage season.
On the contrary, the crescent moon was not been spotted in Oman on 6th June as stated by the authorities. Hence Eid-Al-Adha will be celebrated on 17th June in Oman and the 8th June (Saturday) will be marked as the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah.
In India, Eid-Al-Adha will be celebrated on 14th June 24 as the Dhu Hijjah crescent moon was seen on Wednesday.
Eid-Al-Adha also called Eid ul-Adha, Bakra Eid, or the “Feast of Sacrifice” is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar. Also mentioned as Al Eid Al Kabeer, which means the Grand Eid. It holds major importance in religious terms as it continues for four days. Whereas Eid Al Fitr is seen for one day. Celebrated throughout the Islamic world, honors the Prophet Abraham who is eager to sacrifice everything for God.
Eid-Al-Adha will come on the 10th day of Dhul Al Hijah, it is the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar. On Eid-Al-Adha the Muslims will sacrifice their cattle sheep or goat. Usually, one-third of the meat will be eaten by the family, and the other one-third will be shared with relatives and friends. The remaining third portion is been donated to the poor people. In addition, the key tradition of Eid-Al-Adha is offering charity in the form of food, clothes, and money to the homeless and poor people.
